Reverence To The Holy Prophet

Q. In Attahayyat, it is said

O Prophet, my salutation to you and may the blessing and compassion of God be on you.

A. First correction: O Prophet you have received blessing, compassion and benediction from God. The Holy Prophet has already received all these blessings.

Second correction: Only God can provide 'Salaamati' or well-being to his Prophet or messenger, the Ummati or follower is only entitled to receive such Salaamati and not provide it. Hence the prayer for 'salaam' on the follower or Ummati and 'Darood' or God's blessing for the Prophet.

Darood or 'blessings' and its translation:

(O God, just as you created in large numbers, people offering Darood and Salaam for Abraham and his off-springs, in the like manner, may a large number of people be there to offer Darood and Salaam for our Prophet)

(O God, just as the followers of Abraham were more numerous than those of other Prophets, so also favour our Prophet with a large following)

Since our Prophet enjoyed a status higher than that of Abraham, it will not be appropriate to pray that our Prophet be blessed the same way as Abraham was.
