Browser Support and Proxy Settings
1. Browser Installation Check
     
  • Do not install an older version over a newer, already installed version. 
2. Browser opens but cannot get to any web pages

To check what version of Internet Explorer you have do the following:

  1. From the start menu (at the lower left corner of the screen) select Settings.
  2. From Settings, select Control Panel.
  3. From Control Panel, select Add/Remove Programs.
  4. Scroll through the list of programs on the "Install/Unindtall" tab and find "Internet Explorer" or "Microsoft Internet Explorer". If the number following the program name is 4.0 or above, DO NOT CONTINUE with the installation. Please call Technical Support.
  5. Cancel from Add/Remove Programs and close the Control Panel window.

2. Browser opens but cannot get to any web pages. 

Try to go to another web site that is a known working site.

Are you getting an error?
Is the modem dialing out?
Is the modem connecting?

Clear your Cache.

Clear your cache.

  1. For Internet Explorer first determine the version. 
  2. Have them open Internet Explorer. 
  3. Click on the word "Help" at the top of the browser. 
  4. Scroll down to "About Internet Explorer" and click on it. 

  5. Near the top it should tell you the version.

Internet Explorer Prior to version 3.0
  1. Have them open Internet Explorer. 
  2. Click on the word "View" at the top of the browser. 
  3. Scroll down to "Options" and click on it. 
  4. Click on the "Advanced" tab. 
  5. Click "Empty" in the cache area.

  1. Have them open Internet Explorer. 
  2. Click on the word "View" at the top of the browser. 
  3. Scroll down to "Options" and click on it. 
  4. Click on the "Advanced" Tab. 
  5. Click on the "Settings" in the Temporary Internet files area. 
  6. Click "Empty Folder".

For Netscape version 3.x

  1. Open Netscape.
  2. Click on the word "Options" at the top of the browser.
  3. Scroll down to "Network Preferences" and click on it.
  4. Click on the "Cache" tab.
  5. Click on "Clear Memory Cache Now" then click "OK".
  6. Click on "Clear Disk Cache Now" then click "OK".

3. Check proxy settings.  Note: Setting the proper proxy settings will not work if you do not have your account properly set up.  Be sure to uncheck Use Proxy Settings if your free trial period has ended and/or you decide to discontine service to insure faster Internet access (delay caused by improperly using proxy server).

  1. From your desktop, right click on the "Internet Explorer" icon. 
  2. Scroll down to the "Properties" and click on it. 
  3. Click on the "Connections" tab. 
  4. Check the "Connect through a Proxy Server" or "Use a proxy server"
  5. In the address place put Proxy Server Setting   in the port put the Port Digits
  6. Click "OK".
