| Here’s
a brief rundown of the different types of honeymoons:
1. Resorts and All-Inclusive Resorts. Resorts
are the most popular
honeymoon destinations,
whether it’s a flight around the world away, or just a few hours drive.
The difference between resorts and hotels is that resorts are geared toward
vacationers and people just trying to get away from it all. They include
recreational activities like pools, private beaches and golf courses, as
well as several dining options.  All-inclusive resorts and clubs
are perfect if you’re looking for a true escape from the pressures of wedding
planning. You’ll pay one price up front, to cover your room, meals, use
of recreational facilities (such as windsurfers, tennis courts, and snorkeling
gear), airport transfers, and other amenities. At some resorts, you’ll
pay for your alcoholic beverages, snacks, and other incidentals separately;
at others there are no extra costs, not even tips for the staff.  The
real advantage of this system is that you’re free to enjoy the activities
and your meals, and concentrate on having a wonderful time without thinking
about how much every little thing costs. Most all-inclusive resorts are
geared toward keeping visitors on the premises in a state of total relaxation.
Visits away from the resort are usually organized group tours.
2. Cruises. Cruises are similar to all-inclusive
resorts in that you pay one price which includes lodging, meals, and a
variety of recreational activities. The difference, of course, is that
the cruise is a resort in motion. On a cruise, you’ll have the opportunity
to visit several different locations, whether they’re tropical islands
or Alaskan harbors. The best part is you don’t have to do anything to travel
around – your room and luggage move with you. Cruise lines
offer a wide variety of experiences. Each boat and itinerary has a different
"personality." There are highly social cruises, cultural cruises, and even
fitness-oriented cruises. Your travel agent will guide you in the right
direction.
3. Adventure Vacations. While many couples
envision themselves lying peacefully on a beach after their wedding, others
find this type of vacation a formula for utter boredom. If you’d rather
be energized than relaxed by your trip, you have lots of options for an
action-packed honeymoon. You can go white-water rafting down the Colorado
River, rock climbing, camping, or on an African safari. Charter a yacht,
explore a cave, or do whatever brings you excitement. You don’t even have
to travel far to enjoy an adventure honeymoon – you may be able to map
out a bike route or hiking trip across your own state. If you’re
not very experienced with the type of adventure you crave there are guided
trips available for just about everything. Tour groups also require a lot
less time to plan, which can be a huge advantage. Of course, this type
of vacation is best enjoyed when it’s the first choice for both you and
your fiancé. Another bonus, getting in shape for your honeymoon
will be a great way to relieve wedding-related stress!
4. Cultural Vacations. Exploring Paris,
practicing your Japanese in Tokyo, or touring Rome might be your idea of
the ultimate honeymoon. While they include several elements of resort vacations
and adventure vacations, cultural honeymoons focus mainly on exploring
a new destination. For some couples, this means traveling to the land of
their heritage. Others use their honeymoon as the perfect time to tour
Europe or visit Asia.  A cultural honeymoon doesn't have to mean
traveling across the globe, either. American cities like San Francisco
and New York offer lots of exploration possibilities. You can take a cultural
vacation on your own, or go as part of a group tour. Better yet, combine
a bit of both, getting the history and important sites from a short tour
and then spending some time on your own, soaking up the local ambiance. |
