Reverence To The Holy Prophet

Q. The Messenger ate, drank and had other needs also. Then wasn't he a 'bashar' (a human being)?

A. He ate and drank but he was never needful. Proof; a follower of the Messenger cannot, regardless of how hardworking (or virtuous) he is, surpass the Messenger in his status. He still remains a slave of the Messenger.

We, though we are only followers, will be admitted to the Paradise after we have rendered an account of all our deeds on the Day of Resurrection. Therein we will eat and drink but will not want anything. Now if we suppose that the Messenger wants anything (or that he is needful) we will be enhancing the status of the follower. We should not suppose it, not at all.
